Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley Appoints Three Dynamic Leaders to Board of Directors

SAN JOSE, CA, May 12, 2021 – Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) announced today the addition of Farah Faruqui of PwC, Maya Marcus of Palo Alto Networks and Angel Rios with the City of San Jose as new members of the organization’s Board of Directors.

Farah Faruqui, Partner – PwC

“I have spent the last 20 years in Silicon Valley but did not realize the magnitude of the disparity that exists in our immediate community for basic education for kids,” said Faruqui. “The virtual learning environment during the pandemic further highlighted the fact that many kids still do not have the basic access and tools to learn and be successful at school. I am honored to join the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley and this movement.”

Maya Marcus, Vice President, People – Palo Alto Networks

“I was raised to give back to the community in which we’re a part,” said Marcus. “After searching for how I’d like to give my time and resources, I believe the mission of the BGCSV allows me to give back in a way that’s aligned to my values and passion – inspiring and educating our communities kids and providing safe spaces for kids who may not have the same privileges or resources as others.”

Angel Rios Jr., Deputy City Manager – City of San Jose

“I was born and raised in East San Jose, just blocks away from the local Boys and Girls Club,” says Rios Jr. “At the age of eight, my friends and I enrolled at the Club and together we learned about leadership, character, and the importance of making wise decisions. Truth be told, my life could have ended up much differently if it weren’t for the staff that intervened countless times to keep me on the right track. I have never forgotten the impact the Club had on my life, so I have chosen to serve on the Board so that I can make sure the youth of today get the same fighting chance I did.”

“Every successful community organization is fueled by a stellar board of directors and we’re honored to add these three incredible community leaders as we continue to expand the work of serving at-risk youth,” said Steve Wymer, President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley. “I am excited to pursue our mission with Farah, Maya and Angel as part of our leadership.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley Board Chair Kathy Hevland of Ernst & Young added, “Angel, Farah, and Maya add unique expertise, perspective and experience to our Board and I am confident that their contributions will be immediately felt as we work together to open doors and create more opportunities for the young people who need us most in Silicon Valley.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley serve young people in need across Silicon Valley. Interested community leaders, employers, and residents can learn more about engagement opportunities HERE and support the organization by donating HERE.
